Saturday 25th May

As a result of yet another week with numerous players unavailable it was a time for the more senior players to come out of retirement and help out. The seconds fielded, Paul Clewes, Andy Hemmingway, Andy Fern and Chappie Wilson. Even Harry Chapman had dug out his kit just in case. Ian Bentley was promoted to the firsts but only lasted 13 overs before a collision with the ground saw him taken to Derby Hospital for ECG and CT scans.

Despite good performances by Jav Oomer in the firsts and Harry Poxon and Mark Clewes in the seconds, both teams lost.

Friday 24th May

At the Kwik Cricket Festival at Walton, the Walton team managed to win both of their games. However what was a good night for all was interrupted by the need for an ambulance to treat an injury to one of the visiting teams player. First Aid training was put into practice and the injury was dealt with expertly by the Chairman/Child Welfare Officer Paul Clewes. The parents of the injured lad visited the club the following day to thank Paul personally.

Thursday 23rd May

The young Under 15 team played at Draycott against much older opposition but although losing played extremely well. Their keeness and fielding would have put some of their more senior players to shame. Well Done Team.

Saturday 18th May

With over 5 players unavailable for  the 1st Team, both teams fielded less than strong sides and as a result both sides lost. However Nick Campion (53) scored hid maiden half century for Walton CC. Under strength the 2nd Team managed a respectable score although aided by 65 extras. (Maybe Extras should go on the Top Performance Board !!)

Friday 17th May – Ladies Night

An evening of entertainment and much Gin was enjoyed by many of the ladies of the club.

Saturday 11th May

With the 2nd Team game being cancelled due to a rain effected ground at Chellaston it was up to the 1st Team home to try and improve on their start to the season. Unfortunately some good bowling and a few indifferent shots saw them dismissed with a low score which the opposition knocked off in 32 overs.

Saturday 4th May

Although the 1st Team lost in what appears to be a very hostile event with Dave Preston scoring a good 53, the 2nd Team recorded their first victory thanks to a power hitting display of 160 not out by Luke Hemmingway and a maiden half century for Tom Oomer (52).

Saturday 27th April

The weather intervened and nearly all the games throughout Derbyshire were either called off or were badly interrupted. Both 1st and 2nd games were cancelled.

Saturday 20th April

The new season has not started well with both the 1st Team and 2nd Team losing their opening games.

Attempt Break-In – 15th/16th April

Unfortunately an attempted break-in to the club house has left damage to one of the new windows in the extension and the door on the score box.

Easter Egg Hunt – 14th April

Although being a little cool it was another good turn out which saw parents having to leave the hard clues to find the eggs to the kids. There was even a visit from the Easter Bunny who assisted in the choosing the winners of the best Easter Bonnet.

NatWest Cricket Force Day – 6th April

It was great to see a number of players, both Senior and Junior together with parents and other members helping at the ground to get the club house and ground ready for the new season.

Work involved lots of cleaning, getting the nets ready and the covers for the ground.

Bingo – 30th March

The event held at the Village Hall was a great success, with over 40 people attending.

During the close season work started on the extension to the Club House. The extension will have a larger kitchen, a much needed store room and a Committee/Office.

Although its hoped that the shell maybe completed prior to the season, it will not be fully functional for some time.

Sponsorship and money raising will be essential to ensure its completion.
